- HIS STORY
From a gap in care to a fellowship in children’s hearts
Dr. Abdikadir Hussein is a dedicated Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist whose career is defined by a deep commitment to improving child health and strengthening healthcare access within his community.
Following his secondary education, Dr. Abdikadir recognised a critical gap in access to quality medical care — particularly affecting mothers, children and vulnerable populations. Motivated by this need, he pursued a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), where he graduated as a Medical Doctor (MD).
Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Abdikadir returned to serve his community as a medical officer, providing essential healthcare services and gaining extensive clinical experience. Through this work he contributed to the care of tens of thousands of patients, reinforcing his dedication to service and community impact.
Driven by the understanding that a healthy society begins with healthy children, he advanced his training in Paediatrics and Child Health, becoming a qualified Paediatrician. In this role he focused on preventive care, early diagnosis and the comprehensive management of childhood illnesses — further expanding his reach and impact.
As his practice evolved, Dr. Abdikadir identified a significant unmet need in paediatric heart care. Determined to address this gap, he pursued specialised training and attained a fellowship in Paediatric Cardiology. Today he practises as both a Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist, providing advanced, life-saving cardiac care for children.
Dr. Abdikadir remains at the forefront of community-focused healthcare, combining clinical expertise with a strong sense of purpose. His work is centred on closing critical gaps in medical services, ensuring that no child is left behind, and promoting a future where every child has the opportunity to grow, thrive and reach their full potential.
“It is much more important to know what sort of patient has a disease than what sort of disease a patient has.”

- HOW HE WORKS
Three habits that shape every visit
Listen first
The history a parent gives is the most valuable test in the room. Consultations are unhurried by design.
Explain plainly
No jargon, no rushed handover. Findings are explained in English or Somali until they genuinely make sense.
Follow through
Every family leaves with a written plan, the red flags to watch for, and a named date to come back.
Community outreach
A photo from a school screening or community talk would sit here
Community first
Education & screening
- BEYOND THE CLINIC
Closing the gap he set out to close
Clinical work alone cannot reach every child. Dr. Abdikadir shares educational content, runs screening outreach and mentors younger clinicians so that good paediatric care travels further than one consulting room.
