Upon completing his studies, he returned to Kenya—particularly to Garissa—where he began serving as a medical officer in communities that were in urgent need of healthcare services.
While practicing, he observed a deeper issue: the scarcity of specialized medical professionals, especially in pediatric care. This realization led him to focus on child health, becoming a pediatrician and dedicating his work to improving the wellbeing of children. He strongly believes that a healthy child is the foundation of a healthy generation.
Motivated to expand his impact, Dr. Abdikadir advanced his training in pediatrics and continued serving across Kenya—reaching underserved populations, refugee camps, and remote towns. Through this work, he encountered a critical gap in pediatric cardiology, particularly in the management of congenital heart diseases.
Recognizing the need for highly specialized care, he pursued further training in pediatric cardiology, undertaking fellowship programs in Kenya, India, and South Africa. This advanced training equipped him with the expertise to diagnose and manage complex heart conditions in children, including those requiring surgical intervention.
Today, Dr. Abdikadir Hussein is a practicing pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist committed to delivering specialized heart care to children across Kenya. His work extends beyond clinical practice—he actively participates in outreach programs, visiting communities nationwide to ensure that even the most underserved children have access to life-saving care.
